We are delighted to announce that Caldy Open Gardens 2025 will be raising funds for Age UK Wirral, a charity dedicated to enhancing the lives of older people across our community.

As you wander through the enchanting gardens of Caldy, taking in the beauty and enjoying all that’s on offer at this much loved event, know that your support will have a profound and lasting impact.

This year, every penny raised will go towards a new wheelchair-adapted vehicle for Age UK Wirral’s Home from Hospital Service, ensuring that some of the most vulnerable members of our community can return home from hospital safely, with dignity and the support they need.

Helping People
Return Home Safely

For many elderly residents, the transition from hospital to home can be challenging. In partnership with Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge hospitals, Age UK Wirral’s Home from Hospital Service ensures those ready for discharge receive essential support.

Beyond transport, this service provides key safes, essential shopping and ongoing care, improving recovery and reducing hospital readmissions. With NHS beds costing £340 per night, it also helps free up much-needed capacity.

However, one of the charity’s wheelchair-adapted vehicles is now unreliable, limiting how many people can be helped. Funds raised through Caldy Open Gardens 2025 will provide a new vehicle, enabling Age UK Wirral to assist more people safely and efficiently.

A Commitment to Care

Age UK Wirral provides an extensive range of specialist services and community support for older residents. Of particular note is its dementia care provision, which offers vital assistance to both individuals living with dementia and their families. Thanks to the Challenge Anneka television programme, the charity now operates a dedicated dementia village and therapeutic garden, alongside day care services, carer support, and a 12-week programme for those newly diagnosed.

These initiatives have been transformative, offering guidance and reassurance to families navigating the complexities of dementia care. Many have described Age UK Wirral’s support as a lifeline during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Your Support Will Make a Difference

Originally established in 1948 as Age Concern, Age UK Wirral has grown from a single volunteer working from a hut in Birkenhead into an independent, highly respected local charity employing 120 staff and almost 400 volunteers. Despite this growth, it remains entirely self-funded, ensuring that all money raised is invested directly into services that benefit Wirral residents.

By attending Caldy Open Gardens 2025, you are not only indulging in an afternoon of horticultural delight but also contributing to a cause that will profoundly impact the lives of those in need..
